We had a problem solving & sketching workshop at The Square Ball on 15th Feb 2018. We started off with a fun exercise of the Toast challenge. The scenario we chose was to communicate to an alien that came to earth how to make toast. Attendees drew this process in 3mins. It was fun to see the different ways that people approached the task. Find out more about the toast challenge. The process showed that drawing an idea helped to communicate to each other and that different people have different mental models of how something can be done.
Our next challenge was to think of how search could be designed. The scenario was that you were working for an online shop. The task was to work as a team to come up with ideas of how people could search for a product. The attendees were encouraged to think about customer patterns, preferences, current and future tech.
The room was divided into two groups. Each person wrote their ideas silently on post-it notes. After 5 minutes the ideas were added to the wall and group members explained their ideas. The post-its were then clustered and voted on. People then sketched the idea with the most votes individually. After 10 minutes there were some great ideas and people talked through their thought process.
These events might be of interest for designers, developers, product owners and people with an interest in UX and interaction design
